Wouldn't change a single thing. People are selfish and greedy.

Here, I'll throw you a bone: An embarrassment to Christendom and all humanity

I don't subscribe to his beliefs, opinions, nor his agenda.

I don't believe that. People are not selfish and greedy given a chance. They are moral, unselfish, and giving. If they are given the chance to be that way without the claptrap of morals being handed down from on high from a man in the sky.

I get the video even though I can't bear to click on it. But that douchebag is only the tip of the iceberg. Flush all reason for religion down the toilet and we can move on. We can move on to a world where that douchebag cannot draw a breath of air. For one he is taxed. That is enough to put him out of business. But to strike a bell of moral clarity so no fool falls for his line of shit. That would be a world without religion.

All infected by or are mimicking religion. You are just naming high priests.

Well, yeah, if you're worshiping the $ god at Wal*Mart on Sunday morning. Big Grin

Every god you could imagine or worship is the Walmart god of some other religion. If you think you are worshiping the one true god it only means you are truly deluded. Prove the other religion wrong and you have a case. Prove that the Invisible Pink Unicorn is not the one true god and you have a case. But you can't since she is the one true god.
The family watched "The Invention of Lying" with Gervais tonight. Made for some entertaining commentary afterwards. The church where the wedding was in the end which was the church of "The Man In the Sky" was amusing. Kind of wonder how this movie is explained to small children in religious families. Do they not let their children watch it or do the parents say the movie is making fun of other religions but not theirs?

When Gervais let his hair grow I thought he was going to do a Jesus thing but I guess he thought better of it. It would have been funny. Hopefully he didn't hold back because he thought religious folk would chase him out of town with pitchforks.

But they would have.

I don't care if folks make fun of my religion or anyone else's. I'm not insecure and I'll laugh right along with them. Making fun and attacking are not the same.

I wouldn't call what that movie did to religion as the type of fun described as comedy. I would call it satire. A ridiculing of the subject. One can laugh at satire while even being the direct object of satire but there likely is some cringing involved.

As the movie ended my daughter asked me if I thought someone who was religious would think it funny. An interesting question since Ricky Gervais is not stupid. Would he make a movie that alienated 95% of the American public? Or was this movie only supposed to open in England?

I think he hid his satire enough so that offense for the most part was not taken. But there was a biting satire to all of the "man in the sky" stuff.

I enjoy satire, but there are folks who are so insecure in their beliefs that they take offense at nearly everything. I have a t-shirt that states "Jesus loves you, but I'm his favorite!" I think it's hilarious.
