Can't remember anyone accusing Hunter S Thompson of being a nice level headed guy. Although somewhat dated his driving around Vegas with a 250 pound Samoan in a rental with the tires pumped up to 80 psi still makes me laugh.

(The book made me laugh. The movie sucked.)

Nice to hear his voice again, even if it was getting close to the end.

I went and saw him give a "lecture" at the University of Illinois sometime in the late '70s. It was quite the raucous event. I was with a female friend who had dated Garry Trudeau as an undergraduate at Yale (I think I've mentioned her before). HST and Trudeau were having some kind of literary feud at the time and we hung around after the formalities so she could get his autograph. He was very gracious about it considering the book she brought was a Trudeau book.
