While President-elect Obama is busy putting together an administration, George W. Bush is on his way out, and you can almost hear a game show host directing his sidekick to "tell them what they won, Bob."

As parting gifts, President Bush is leaving us with his determination to deregulate everything he possibly can in his closing days in the White House. The Eagles once wrote a song called "The Last Resort" which prophetically laid out those policies which Bush is espousing: "Some rich men came and raped the land. Nobody caught 'em."

The White House is working to enact a wide array of federal regulations, many of which would weaken government rules aimed at protecting consumers and the environment, before President Bush leaves office in January.

The new rules would be among the most controversial deregulatory steps of the Bush era and could be difficult for his successor to undo. Some would ease or lift constraints on private industry, including power plants, mines and farms.

Those and other regulations would help clear obstacles to some commercial ocean-fishing activities, ease controls on emissions of pollutants that contribute to global warming, relax drinking-water standards and lift a key restriction on mountaintop coal mining.

Since the days of Ronald Reagan, the Republican party has worshipped at the altar of big business. Bush's only consideration in enacting these measures to deregulate anything and everything is the pursuit of the Almighty Dollar to pad the corporate bottom line. This is a blatant attempt to further line the pockets of corporate cronies at the expense of public safety.

i lifted this entire post from elsewhere (verified its info (mccain's book), made some edits and here it is).

my question is the same as the one at the end, with the addition of the following comment with one caveat; and, that is that i have not studied case law on this issue: the law (cited below) identifies this, Mccain's action, as the crime of treason. the law outlines the punishments and i assume it is certainly a felony thus one recieving even the least end of the punishment is nevertheless branded as Felon. we apply the law and punishment on a case by case basis, i.e., a jury may say you are guilty but refuse punishment or prescribe the lightest available (i am not sure what the venue is in such a case as this specific one, i could guess military for soldiers accused of such or when they were soldiers -- i don't know, mb civilian). clearly, mccain's position in life excluded him from the law. instead, he received, and, imo, is still trying to get awarded for his actions.

(Websters) Traitor : trai-tor noun
1 : one who betrays another's trust or is false to an obligation or duty
2 : one who commits treason

FACTS

At the 2008 RNC, John McCain admits that "they broke me" (in the prison)
By definition : US Code § 2381. Treason:
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
(also see United States Code , Title 10, Part II, Chapter 47, Section 904, Article 104)

John McCain aided the enemy, when they "broke him" in that Vietnamese prison. McCain said: "Eventually, I gave them my ship's name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant."

Recalling how he gave up military information to his interrogators, McCain said: "I regret very much having done so; the Code of Conduct for American Prisoners of War orders us to refrain from providing any information beyond our names, rank and serial number." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_United_...of_Conduct
--- Conclusion: John McCain committed Treason against the United States.

Quote:"You'll have to forgive me for being an Eisenhower Republican," joked Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of the former five-star general and two-term Republican president. The man who had helped lead America to victory over the forces of Axis darkness during World War II, then oversaw a period of unprecedented prosperity and suburban satisfaction during the 1950s.

Speaking on the telephone on Aug. 7 from her Washington office at The Eisenhower Institute, a think tank where she serves as president emeritus, the journalist-turned-foreign policy wonk explained her decision to publicly support Barack Obama after a lifetime in the Republican Party.

"I don't know how much you know about my grandfather's administration," Eisenhower said. "But that administration stood for multilateral engagement, balancing the budget. They were the party of civil rights, they were the party of environmental progress. That was the Republican Party of the 1950s. I think you can make the case that doesn't sound like the Republican Party we know today. If you look at the way Obama's run his campaign, to how Hillary Clinton ran her campaign, or even how John McCain's campaign is shaping up -- you can definitely say that Obama's running his campaign in a way an Eisenhower Republican would have run his campaign.

"He raises a lot of money," Eisenhower, 56, said, by way of explaining the similarities she sees between her grandfather and the likely Democratic nominee. "He has very little debt. I just love it. Anybody who wants to make him out as this wide-eyed liberal -- I just don't see any evidence for that, not in the way he runs his campaign. And this tells you a lot about how he can administer things, how he manages things, how he deals with situations.

the person speaking was saying that Reagan helped us, in negative way, to fear government.
so, i decided to check out some others, here a few samples (it seems he's all over the map... that is, enough to mostly contradict himself (see link for lots of them, decide for yourself):

"Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves."

"All the waste in a year from a nuclear power plant can be stored under a desk."

"Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have."
